Energy-related rules & policy updates
Comments on the proposed new BLM Oil & Gas Rule are due August 24, 2026
The BLM has released a new proposed regulation to remove improvements in the federal oil and gas leasing system that were enacted in 2024 and would significantly limit science-based decision-making and public involvement. The proposal triggers a 60-day comment period, ending on August 24, 2026. TU encourages comments urging the BLM to prioritize responsibility in energy development, making sure that sensitive habitats are considered and impacts to fish and wildlife are reduced, water resources are protected, and improving the process with respect to transparency and robust public involvement and comment, and ensuring a fair return for taxpayers.
